December road trippin'

Home again home again, Jiggity-jig!

We spent Christmas/new years with family back in the south west (USA). It was cool and rainy for the most part but we did get some sunny warm days which was nice. The trip there we went along interstate 20 going west and I got to stop and quite a few pretty antique shops along the way (too many according to the rest of the peeps since they were bored and we had to hustle towards the end of our drive). Stopping in towns along the way and having a meal or bed is, I realize, a good starter to get the feel if the place. The goal was to stop before or right after the borders of the state (expect Texas- that was too big for just one stop) and we sort of did that...mostly.

Ooh but the favorite of the trip down was the private owned ghost town of Shaskpeare! It is in New Mexico and while it is only by group tours you get to see New Mexico in all it's late 19th century through the 20 and 21 century glory! Mine town, saloon, mail/stage coach station galore! They also had a dance studio and a nifty story about a shack that held the activist of the family staunchly blocking the construction of the interstate through (or near) their home!

The week(ish) in Tucson was lots of fun! We filled it will family and friends and visiting lots of places  we don't see (and shops we see all the time). We did visit the Snoring Desert Museum. Beware of the long winding roads if you get sick easy, (and check the weather) however take your camera because the desert is a pretty place to see! The icky thing is we seemed to accumulate a common cold and climate lack of adjustments so we were always stuffed to the gills with DayQuil and NyQuil to combat the ick.

Driving back was faster (ie, less stops) but we took the scenic route going east down interstate 10, so it was technically a longer drive. Very pretty and we saw different areas of the states we came up on. Yay!
