 Made it home! Waffle House, Lots of rain more east the moodier/stressed out, tablet babysitting, zipping through SC, home in time for pizza!

Friday rains

Today seemed to go by quick. We had screen time, all building blocks out, all pup toys out...and then it rained. First came the hyper active make believe pup play, her blanket and screens dragged in almost every room of the house for sleepy or sick or hiding pups. As the day progressed she popped in and out of her room with various block toys and pup figurines when meals were requested or acknowledged. Towards the beginning of the afternoon she settled right outdoor with her stuffed animal pups, her kindle and a umbrella for some shade from the sun. The umbrella came in handy when it started to poor come mid afternoon and after singing and dancing in the rain under the umbrella, her pups went swimming in the "pool." Mean while I had a pounding headache so I was taking it easy with low lights, book reading and easy crafting and cleaning. Maids, Wives, and Widows

So this a book a week thing is harder then I was thinking it would be. Finding books that aren't my normal and slowing down to be able to think and write about it...it takes some effort and time I didn't realize was needed. Also spending all day on a book makes my husband (who gets frustrated with my book reading anyway) a bit grumpy, lol. So This book was based on English women in history between the 1570s and the 1770s. Maids (the young unmarried women) seemed to have the most freedom in terms of how they were thought of. Wives seemed to have most of the work, and widows seemed to be kind of stuck, to be honest (they paid their dues as a wife but couldn't do much with them). The book kept referring to this time as the early modern-day, which I can see, sort of. This time frame had a lot of modern-day thinking, they relied on the medical/science (of the day) and church for all their new and improved, from the home and its housewifely and chide rearing, to the health and...

Lets talk some science!

Gemstones have been around for a looooong time! They have been a fabric of our history (both literally and figuratively) since man understood how to create things. While synthetics didn't seem to be developed or understood until the 20th century or so, people have been mining and wearing for life and death. Gemstones come in all different colors and have been divided for such purposes as their usefulness and appearance. 1812 Fredrick Mohs created a standard of 10 minerals to be the poster children for understanding the hardness of all minerals. Geology.com clued me into some facts!  Diamonds: Carbon atoms covalent bonded, make sturdy and durable, and versatile gemstone that has been around for many moons and hopefully be around for many more.
