Lat day of November 2020

Image
Wow. November 2020 went by fast...and yet it all feels like it should have been a lot slower. Maybe it is because the holidays always seem to wiz past or maybe it's the patterned status quo but either way, today was a bit normal. Luna played and took over her room and the back of the living room. All her pups, pi masks, and blocks were out, though her blanket and screen took precedence today. Meanwhile, I tried (and failed) to join frames together. I also killed at least 2 of them while doing so, so it might all be dumpster waste. I also thankfully got some phone calls in and sadly made a big ol' mess with the glue on the carpet (it spilled over). It is being difficult and not coming out easily so it might be a soak the carpet and let it dry before tackling it again mess, instead of a total clean up today mess. Then did some screen time of my own and started the end of the month bedsheets. Woohoo. Dinner is jambalaya and my other half made more pumpkin goodies (we still have so

Book of the week: Shel Silverstein: Where The Sidewalk Ends

Image
Oh ho ho! I found this on KU and couldn't resist! He was (is still?) one of my favorite authors growing up! Reading his poems again gave me a bit of a giggle...and I remember trying to do lots of things with that Hug-O-War poem of his. If you haven't read any of his stuff, he is a kid's author; and from what I recall poems (whether they be short poems or those long story poems like Homer did-prose?-) are his specialty. Where The Sidewalk Ends is one of his collection of poem books in which the poems are usually silly and short (unlike his book "the giving tree" in which he story-writes one long poem about, well, the giving tree!). If I remember correctly, he was one of those authors I found inspirational enough to try and write like...I am unsure if any of them survived (I don't thinks so), however, I sort of have ideas after reading this, so it may be fun to do! I could also tell how he influenced my...worage and verbiage in my speaking, heh. He does the artw

Crafting this week: puzzle "painting"

Image
The craft of the week is putting together and framing that puzzle I talked about earlier this week. It was fun, easy (ish), and a lot better when I actually had the stuff to do it right (ish). I got a thing of mode podge and that helped glue the puzzle together.  I also repainted-er, re-dot-to-dot- the canvas in so the puzzle would have a more even colored background. According to my child, the paw patrol that was colored on their before (as I reused the stringed art canvas) are now hiding behind their color, heh. Hope this piece will not be a luna destruction like the others!

Happy Thanksgiving

Image
Happy Thanksgiving!!! We had a "friendsgiving" in which friends get together to celebrate Thanksgiving. This year, along with the lots of food, we had a lot of video gameplay happening too. After about 10 years of marriage to my husband, I tend to forget the holidays considering they are usually just another day in this household (unless we get invited to do things like to this shindig). It was fun trying to adult for a bit and Luna did pretty well considering there were no other kids around. Though I suppose that is actually her normal (more adults than kids) so she learned pretty well at entertaining herself, and I have learned to bring things that entertain her (and not destroy wherever we are at)....hmmm, maybe this is why we have so much fuss when there are other kids involved in the entertainment... Thanksgiving fun facts: a) Thanksgiving was first celebrated in 1621 over a 3 day harvest festival between Pilgrims and Native Americans from the  Wampanoag tribe b) It is

Howel's Moving Castle

Image
So I feel like I wrote about this movie at some point somewhere, however, we recently got it from Walmart (I think) dubbed in English with fun voices like Billy Crystal and Christian Bale. I am not all that great at remembering specifics (I tend to lump them all together) and was convinced this was a very confusing twisty turvy anime movie when I was watching in its native language (with subtitles). However, watching it with the English dub actually found me pretty emerged into the story. Maybe it's because I saw some random YouTube video that popped up on my feed talking about it (it has myth lore involving the baba Yaga, I think)...or maybe it was the dubbed voices I knew, however, this movie was pretty entertaining and I enjoyed it a lot. A young girl that is considered plain and average in her looks (and apparently dresses older than her age) who works in a hat shop gets spelled to look like she dresses from a "rival" bitter old witch who wants the wizard's heart

Realizations about karma

Image
Today was pretty normal. Our failed adventure was my crafting (I tried hot gluing a puzzle together) with luna. We need to get some proper stuff before I try again, but hopefully, it will work next time. The rest of the day was normal stuff: pups, blocks, and luna messes! There was even a bit of run about the outside...well a circuit from our side door to our front door, but she had fun with it, I think. There also the time she got into the tools and started to "paint" the walls/door. Luckily the paintbrush had nothing on it or she'd be in a lot more trouble. Funny, how I am noticing karma biting me more and more. The fact that I am such a pushover and everyone knows it, doesn't actually help when the only thing that works for me is when I get louder. I suppose that fact that she isn't afraid of my "angry-ing" voice (I., e., doesn't wail at me when I raise it) is...well something, not real sure it helps me any, actually, other than, knowing karma...

New stuff

Image
Apparently the holidays are truly upon us! My husband went little shopping nuts (I am uncertain if he is done yet) and acquired a projector and screen! I will say it is fun to have, and we are selling/ gifting the tv to new house owners so it's not just sitting around. I suppose I can not complain to much as some of my crafting supplies probably came from this shopping spree too, lol. Luna had a a blast "helping daddy" as she took her own tools and wood pieces and hammered them "into" the wall for support!

Book of the week: KU romance

Image
Book of the week: Kindle Unlimited Romance. I didn't really read anything nee this week. I found old authors and old books to read instead. I found comfort in old heroes saving the spitfire heroines, and wall flowers finding love with those who look past the outer looks and (though they tend to have some don't of reason to be there like guarding them and the like) see the inner beauty within. Stories of that have basically the same patterns and plots but create fun characters and ideas in which these characters have to navigate in order to find and complete their ever after. This week most of them were of the fantasy world of magic and mayhem.

Craft of the week : book pages

Image
This week, I started my book project. I am unsure when I will finish it as now the tools are in the way of my craft stuff (waiting to be sorted) but it was something I thought a lot about a lot. We had lots of plastic bags, so I used some folded into squares and sewed them inside some folded pieces of fabric. This way, the pages will trickle when used. I guess I was thinking something like those fabric baby books that crinkle when the babies play with them. I have about 5 pages, though I haven't figured out what to put on them yet. Probably colors and shapes and whatnot. We will see if anything comes from it. (Whie googling, I found that this is kind of a major thing and has quite a following. Apparently, they are called quiet books/busy books)

When tagged for grave yards

Image
Today....was lazy. The main adventure was a luna independent mess of a room. She seems to be finding and rearranging her toys since the painted dresser has been gone. I am unsure of how many times I, she or, we picked up any messes of the day. She certainly enjoyed finding her musical instruments as they and her pups were the main toys brought out again and again!

afternoon at the mall

Image
Today we started out with our usual homebody-ness with the paw patrol and legos and screens (and all my normal schtuff-picking up messes, reading, coffee-). Though she did have fun with some chalk and our table. I t looked like our afternoon was going to be the same-ness...then Luna was admit she wanted the bookstore at the mall so...that was our main adventure today! She had a some fun with the toys and books and then a good time playing with her mini "backpack" pups and snacking on gummies. I...miss-planned as I forgot my glasses (which only really means that if I didn't want blurred edges when looking at something, I'd have to be uber super close...which is my habit anyway), however, more importantly, I forgot that fall/winter time it gets dark earlier so...we walked home in the dark (it was like 5 pm-ish). From this experience I realized (again) that our main neighborhood street is treated more like a normal not neighborhood street for speed, they have poor lighti

baths, legos and puzzles, oh my!

Frederick Fröbel is a dude from Germany that coined the term Kindergarten and basically changed, challenged and transformed the education system in the late 19th century. The fact that he started it by realizing the learning early is one of the best ways to cultivate a being, letting children develop through the process of play and their own learning without the stress of their the adult authority pressed upon them (ie, being a little adult/child labor) allows them to grow ideas of their own as well as have the fundamentals stick more regularly. He encouraged mothers and women educators as they were the closest to the children at that young age. While his ideas were unpopular to certain extent (they claimed it too "socialistic"), it gained enough traction to endure to this day (I think today we would call it preschool rather then kidergarten...at least in the US,as kindergarten is now more...paper learning with tests and deadlines). This also reminds me of...Japan...or is it

the actual act of organizing

Image
Today I put my organization plans to action. Let me tell you, that dresser had one study base! It was heavy heavy heavy, I basically pushed/dragged it all the way to the dump! Luna's room looks slighter bigger without it, I will admit, though now that we have all her stuff in tubs, it looks more like she just moved in (or is moving out). While recuperating from the heavy load/lifting, Luna and I did the normal daily shenanigans (screens, toys and the like). I also got the "tool sorting space" emptied so that my other half can sort his tools (finally!). Sausages are becoming my dinner duty (which is usually at least once a week) so I got to practice my actual cooking skills, today too...since Luna has become more like me in that she is an all-day snacker, rather than a full meals eater. After pulling an all-nighter reading (I just couldn't help myself!), I realized that I have to convince myself to take my meds more and more because while they DO help (at least I recog

Er...nothing new for this Monday

Image
Today was the same old same old. Luna had fun making a mess with her toys and I made sure I wasn't going to die on any little pieces (ie, I cleaned), I also did some reading and some crafting, and some planning. That old dresser I painted? My other half wants it gone (it's too big for what she's got...especially after we purged her broken/baby toys.) And with my child's big ol' bed, we need all the room we can get! I also still have to do some cleaning out for the tools too.

Craft of the week: new loom!...scarf?

Image
In this week's craft I got a new loom from Michael's (we had a coupon). So I started a project. As I am only doing one side I tho g it will be more scarf then anything else. But the purple yarn is super soft so it might be not irritate me too much!

New friends, the whole of paw patrol and it's playroom

Image
Today's main adventure was a playdate and get together with a new friend and the husband's co-worker. A spaghetti dinner, a action movie (triple threat with Tony Jaa) and a humongus playroom that Luna and her new friend absolutely destroyed for a good couple hours! The house itself was amazing but wow, that playroom! I think it was built as a master bedroom with a built in office and 2 walk in closets but as a playroom, wowie, was it awesome! Luna absolutely had a blast playing with all the toys (her friend had a complete set of all the actual paw patrol toys, complete with the look out tower and everything). I wish I got some pictures because they were totally on a roll and playing nicely but alas, I was enjoying the not-having-luna-hang-on-me bit of the evening.  I think the hubs enjoyed it as well coming from a crazy 2 week nonstop work project (seriously, I was not prepared for the stress of  his not being home on the weekend in between!). I think the act of being guests at

Book of the week: The hunting of the Snark, Lewis Carroll

Image
The hunting of the Snark is a nonsense poem from Lewis Carroll. Google said it was originally for one of his books...but ended up not making it in I guess. The poem was sent to a friend with a signed copy of one of his books. I guess most people like to put a mean g behind it all (which I suppose is reasonable as most things even nonsensical have an inspiration behind them). I think my favorite is the fact that he uses "nonsense" words by smashing words together (which I do unthinkingly). This poem contains 8 "fits" as Lewis Carroll calls them outlining 10 characters out on a hunt. Actually, the fact that they go out with a map (that is just a blank piece of paper) without much know-how or true knowledge about it (except for how one can be lured out and what it can become) sort of reminds me if a childeren's make-believe treasure hunt (or that scene in the Winnie-the-Pooh movie where the crew is blindly following a  map no one can understand). In any case it w

Wind and rain

Image
Today has been a normal Thursday, a bit of cleaning, lots of toy playing and screens, some normal fuss but overall nothing too exciting on the daily front. The most exciting thing I did today was mended a towel mat I made. As it has been raining all week (today is also really windy) Luna decided, today, was another play on a rainy day...well all afternoon. Fun fun!

flour, blocks and its picnicks

Image
Today started out with ball rolling (she woke me up with a big pink ball in her hands) then somehow I walk out to see her standing in the flour container with her cat boy stuffed animal covered in flour ...boy, was that fun! It calmed a little bit after that with screens, paw patrol and blocks but we did have a major session of mommy mountain jungle gym/hide-and-seek. Today wasn't too exciting besides all that as she preferred the quieter playing and lounging activities in the afternoon. I vegged mostly as well, reading and netflixing some reruns of old anime I've seen before (one about gods, one about beastmen, and one about lego ninjas, also a 1998 animation/musical about Camelot). Nothing too hard today, cleaned some house, cleaned some luna mess. Ooh but we died have a good building session while we were building in the kitchen too! Fun fun! I almost forgot! Happy Veterans Day!  5 Facts:  For those who are like me spelling wise...the spelling has no apostrophe (')...due

Eye exams and rainy fun

Image
Today is Marine corps bday (happy bday marine corps!). This morning was mostly normal. Lots of screen time, lots of toys and blocks. I convinced her to take a bath too which is always exciting (as opposed to dragging her in screaming), I suppose, the fact that I let her plastic paw patrols ( NOT bath) toys go in with her helped. While she was busy having fun with that, I decided to thin my mending/alterations pile (the jean jacket will now have flannel sleeves vs jean sleeves).  We were almost late to the eye appointment but we made it (luckily it was just across the street!). She did well (not screaming or crying it fussing at all), very talkative, though I am not real sure they (or I) understood all of it. However, after the first part (the routine eye chart and verification of results) the second part (violation, 40 min wait, and the one more doc exam), she was less interested in it all, still friendly and cooperative but more...squirmy/wiggly in the sense of I am done and soon will

Monday Messes

Image
Today we had a fun day of messy living. blocks, paw patrol, pj masks, other stuffies, and blankets galore all with the background sound of the screens streaming Luna videos. She had a blast rearranging the furniture to suit her playing, usually making big spaces so she can spread out and her toys can travel from place to place. Come evening time, she decided it was dark enough to bustle about outside for a bit before claiming the living room again. As she found "daddy packages" and he opened them, the boxesz soon became her toys, first for monsters to scare her daddy then as a home for trick or treating and pup playing that naturally transitioned to building with her playmobil round blocks! Tomorrow is her eye appointment so we shall see if she gets glasses like her mama! Since she keeps stealing mine, I have no doubt she would enjoy them, heh.

Luna's first carnival!

Image
This evening we went to the mini carnival in town! All they had was games and food open but it was fun to have such an experience. Luna legitimately won the pounding weight # game, I actually popped one balloon and she "shot" a successful basketball (by that I mean she missed every time and the lady made one for her) so 3 prizes it was. We did a fourth game and I think she had more fun toss g those rings at the bottles than actually winning (we didn't get a prize for that one as we didn't make any rings on any bottles). Then she played for a bit outside the bookstore before we headed home.

Craft of the week: weights

Image
This week I made some weights. I am not sure what I will weigh down (fabric possibly, maybe paper?) It was sort of easy and it got "rid" if my fabric stash and more of that rubber mulch we still haven't done anything with. So yay for weights!!!

Book of the week: Upstairs at the white house

Image
J.B.West was the assistant usher and then head usher for the white house household. He started close to the end of FD Roosevelt's administration and successfully retired in the first 6 weeks of Nixon's administration. With every new family the business culture of the white house and its estate changed as well. He learned quickly that one must be loyal and respectful to the establishment and its title versus the people holding that title themselves. Though it seems with every new family, he found himself that much closer to each wife of the president. And each president and their wife were their very own magical unicorns; leading the country in their own ways. J.B. West found himself perfecting his trade in "leading/training" of such unicorns so that their culture fits seamlessly into that of the vast network of the white house. As was his position, he discusses mostly of how each family chose to run the estate, from their decorating and dinning habits to their social

Thursday boredom

Image
Today was a boring day that I spent most of my time either stuck to a screen reading the book of the week or crafting for this week. I stopped for little bits of housekeeping here and there and of course entertaining the little one. Luna as it so happens, was very much into being a couch potato today, dragging her blankets and pillows everywhere to lounge about. Of course she did have bouts of energy using the living room, kitchen and bedrooms as massive playgrounds for each activity (weather that be playing doctors or paw patrol and blocks).

Pirates

Image
Another ordinary hermited Wednesday for us. This time we had a long battle game of pirates (or pirates and knights) amongst the screens, meals, and paw patrol, and music/dancing/singing. Blocks were spilled and the volume key on a Luna was extra loud all day long.  Besides that, I remembered to finish (sort of) drying my laundry and planning out my crafting some more (I am going to try and clear out space so my other half can have space to declutter his tools). My other half came home early enough to make a rice dish and pumpkin/chocolate cake (both very good stuff!) so hurray for early night a and a truck ton (3 gallons to be exact) of pumpkin guts!

Cold November

Image
The days are getting colder...which I suppose it a good thing as it is now November (it should be fall weather at some point during fall after all).  While I did house things, kindle things, and craft things...and decided not to freeze my butt off outside, my child was very happily enjoying the cooler weather. Another day of make believe, pj masks, paw patrol, screens, picnics and then a real life construction show as we watch a digger work around some sort of piping out back. My other  half came home and it was sausages for dinner. In other words...another normal Tuesday!

Make believe fussy-ness and a floor mat

Image
Today I decided a towel mat would work for that weave I made yesterday. It didn't work in the bathroom so I put it as a door mat instead. I kind of like it there. Luna played make believe with all her toys today (mostly doctoring and hair-cutting\grooming). Luna had major fussy-ness when she realized, she could not use any of the screens this afternoon (which is what the husband came home to, lucky him)...all and all, a normal Monday in this house!

Craft of the week: weaving

Image
Made another weave! This week was easy...especially since I forgot that I hadn't made anything this week yet until we came home from our normal Sunday outing (we had hibachi for dinner, yum!). So colorful soft weaving! Yay me!
