Mermaids, cake pops and yoga

Today was indeed a restful day. We woke up and just cuddled and played all morning. There was paw patrol, paly foods, and mostly octopus music and dancing. The afternoon rolled around and out we went to stroll around the city and found some lunch, candy, and luna found herself a purple princess mermaid! After more wandering around some shops, we decided to eat dinner with some family and Luna got to finish opening her presents (more paw patrol, a shopping cart, and hot wheels!). Going back home we stopped off for some foodstuff and found some pretty outdoor decorations! For my active little four-year-old there were some interesting points of luna lessons but ultimately they had oodles and oodles of fun with Oma. 


The craft of the week:  make pops! One of her cousins came and they played blues clue memory, made cake pops, and did some "calming" yoga via YouTube. So the instructions were lost to the bakers but YouTube came to the rescue. The cake pops came in an activity kit so it had all the ingredients (except for the liquids). Luna absolutely had a blast pouring, and mixing, and cleaning up the mess. We stayed until the freezing but called it a night after that. The instructional kit had them cook brownies/cake (40 mins at preheated at 350) and then crumble and form the pop (circular balls) and frosting and with the sticks for holding. Freeze for 30 min and then decorate (the cousin used sprinkles).

Friday rains

Today seemed to go by quick. We had screen time, all building blocks out, all pup toys out...and then it rained. First came the hyper active make believe pup play, her blanket and screens dragged in almost every room of the house for sleepy or sick or hiding pups. As the day progressed she popped in and out of her room with various block toys and pup figurines when meals were requested or acknowledged. Towards the beginning of the afternoon she settled right outdoor with her stuffed animal pups, her kindle and a umbrella for some shade from the sun. The umbrella came in handy when it started to poor come mid afternoon and after singing and dancing in the rain under the umbrella, her pups went swimming in the "pool." Mean while I had a pounding headache so I was taking it easy with low lights, book reading and easy crafting and cleaning. Lets talk some science!

Gemstones have been around for a looooong time! They have been a fabric of our history (both literally and figuratively) since man understood how to create things. While synthetics didn't seem to be developed or understood until the 20th century or so, people have been mining and wearing for life and death. Gemstones come in all different colors and have been divided for such purposes as their usefulness and appearance. 1812 Fredrick Mohs created a standard of 10 minerals to be the poster children for understanding the hardness of all minerals. Geology.com clued me into some facts!  Diamonds: Carbon atoms covalent bonded, make sturdy and durable, and versatile gemstone that has been around for many moons and hopefully be around for many more. Crafting this week...a failure?

I was so excited to make a lace-up type of bodice top (without the boning) and eagerly to start it after having a trial period of something similar. I got super duper uber close-like all I had to do was sew the shoulder straps and felt the seams closed-when it fell apart (literally in some places). I am counting it as my craft for the week because I worked hard on it all week but also a lesson learned. When I get back to it, it may still be the top I envisioned or maybe something easier...ish. Edit (8/16/2020): I turned the bodice top thing I tried making into a luna skirt! It is a bit big but if it is layered I think it'll fit well. Yay!
