Day 3 of a 4 day weekend: HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!

Happy Labor day! Before I get into the fun facts of Labor day, I will share a short summary of what we did today: the same as yesterday, heh. I was mentally preparing myself for meeting new people from a throwaway comment of a maybe meet up (that he would have generated) from my other half but that didn't happen. Today was a good repeated of yesterday, we built with books and storied with pups and had copious amounts of screen time. I went done the rabbit hole of professional developments and ended up taking some personal aptitude quizzes from career sites (that basically said I have no hope for any of the technical skills that everyone wants nowadays but have a high interest in forming meaningful relationships and artistic pursuits) and one was well detailed in describing certain personality traits (it described me pretty darn well) (16perosnalities). Crazy, crazy!

On to the facts of Labor day (via google)!

  • It pays tribute to the American workforce!
  • It started in New York in 1882 as the unions wanted to celebrate their workers by way of the parade but Oregon was the first state to celebrate as a legal holiday in 1887. and President Grover Cleveland was the president to put sign off on it being a federal holiday.
  • Other countries celebrate this holiday on May 1 (worker's day). (Canada celebrated it 10 years before America!)
  • The biggest union today is education.
  • Historically, Labor day was the signal to stop wearing white as it was considered a summer color (that you frolic in at summer cottages versus city wear going to work/school) in Victorian times.
  • The 19th-century workers worked at least a 12 hour day 7 days a week. In 1916 the Adamson Act was passed to produce a standard 8-hour workday.
  • The Virginia state has a law (still) in place that legally does not allow the school to start before labor day, stating it as Kings Dominion law (yes the amusement park) so that families can have that last day of fun!
  • According to studies, a 3 day weekend will help you live longer and the hotdog season is officially over (apparently from memorial day to labor day, hotdogs are a hot commodity but decrease in their interest the rest of the year).
  • The Saturday before labor day is the unofficial celebration of bacon and the Sunday before labor day has been unofficially recognized by some churches as Labor Sunday (a time to reflect and thank the workers).
  • Today, 160 million people make up the labor force!

Wowza!!!
