Book of the week:
It works for those who can soak up vocab pretty well, I think. You read a story, it gives you the summary in English and English definitions for the vocab in the story. They offer an audio version so you can hear how it is pronounced as well. I think it can work too, for assessing your skills. As it is from a linguistic learning company, they have many more versions of this level (and other levels) in other languages. I will say the stories are a bit dry and textbook-ish and more like an essay passage than a story. Maybe because of my background in listening to the German language, I understood it better with the audio (which means I am still abysmal reading and writing... and vocab).
Alright, on to the fun stuff: pumpkin picking! So today's adventure was at a farm out here. They offered some entertainment like a magic show, taking a gander at their animals...and feeding them if you have the coins -though they specifically say not by hand and that they are not a petting zoo, so no petting either- which we didn't, so luna was unimpressed, a live band comes evening, a restaurant, shops, a bakery, stalls of small craft and confectionary and other junk foods, and of course the reason we (and many more) came: the hayride and pumpkin patch! As it was the end of October (and the end of the season), while they did have lots of pumpkins left, there were also a lot rotting about. We did manage to find one big pumpkin for our pumpkin pie and a luna sized pumpkin as she wanted a pumpkin cake. I was hoping to carve it out with her but she prefers the cooking to the arts of carving, heh. We were there for a total of about 4 hours and that 4 hours of sun sure did do her in. She was most excited about the hayride and with the pumpkins, however, the rest was just a tag-along behind us dragging her feet (or pulling us to the exit) kind of day. I'd say it was a successful Luna first time pumpkin patch kind of day!
